Gallery Responce (Bristol) (Visual Studies)

For my gallery response I’m basing mine on the Taylor Wessing portrait prize, I pick this one because it’s one of my favorites, and some of the work in there is really amazing and inspiring. I wasn’t sure which image to go with to try and base my response on, so I just went with doing a portrait seen as I liked a lot of the work in there.
I’ve done a self-portrait for it, but using a wide angle lens to get my surroundings in the image as well, because I feel my surroundings reflect who I am and what I do, so for example I’m into computer’s hence the screens, I’m reading, there’s papers on the floor which are visible behind my leg, you can also make out some other small details, ideally I would have liked to have an even wider lens so  I could get more of my room it to include other items which will reflect who I am.
On the lighting side I made it quite dark using just the lamp for lighting. Lighting up part of my face and some of the objects around me, the reason I did this is because I’m not to comfortable taking images of myself or having them taken of me, so the low light is a way around that but also a representation of it because it shows that I’m kind of hiding. I also feel that it focuses the image a bit more, making it so that the image isn’t to cluttered because of everything being exposed and visible.
