These are some of the images from my a couple of the 120
colour films that I shot for this assignment, I like some of them, they kind of
work, but to make them better I’m going to follow the advice that Hamish gave
me of focusing more on top of the item, and trying to get closer to it, so to improve
the images I’ll use a tripod so every item is the same distance from the camera,
and I’ll experiment around with the depth of field and focus of the image, I
feel this will give the images some continuity, so over the week end I plan on
shooting another 2 or 3 films on the beach, as long as the weather is good.

Gallery Responce (Bristol) (Visual Studies)
For my gallery response I’m basing mine on the Taylor
Wessing portrait prize, I pick this one because it’s one of my favorites, and
some of the work in there is really amazing and inspiring. I wasn’t sure which
image to go with to try and base my response on, so I just went with doing a portrait
seen as I liked a lot of the work in there.
I’ve done a self-portrait for it, but using a wide angle lens
to get my surroundings in the image as well, because I
feel my surroundings reflect who I am
and what I do, so for example I’m into computer’s hence the screens, I’m
reading, there’s papers on the floor which are visible behind my leg, you can
also make out some other small details, ideally I would have liked to have an
even wider lens so I could get more of
my room it to include other items which will reflect who I am.
On the lighting side I made it quite dark using just the
lamp for lighting. Lighting up part of my face and some of the objects around
me, the reason I did this is because I’m not to comfortable taking images of myself
or having them taken of me, so the low light is a way around that but also a representation
of it because it shows that I’m kind of hiding. I also feel that it focuses the
image a bit more, making it so that the image isn’t to cluttered because of everything
being exposed and visible.

Rush (The film) (Independent Research)
The film rush has an interesting an engaging story line based
on the original events of the F1 series, and the two main drivers of it, but I’m
more interested in the composition and lighting of the film, there are some
really nice and interesting shots using some good composition and angles and lighting,
there are also some really good scenes with the rain coming down in them, that
have a very atmospheric and striking look to them, creating a feeling to fit
the narrative of the story line.

2013 Turner Prize (Independent Research)
Just a quick blog post today, I found an interesting article
in the Guardian a couple of days ago about the 2013 turner prize, it talks
about the artists and the opinions of the reviewer and some of the narratives
and concepts that the art is representing, some of it is a bit strange to say
the least for example the statue of the man that blinks an pees into the
bucket, and then that artist invites people to come a draw it, but never the
less it’s still an interesting read, and a peek into some more contemporary
art.
