The Way Home (Preseason Work Research)

For our latest project “The Way Home” I have started with two ideas, one based around the positions I took home, and one based around a local park where I walked the dogs a lot before I left for university, I have done some research for both idea.
For the first idea I looked at Tracy Emin, and a work of hers called “My Bed”, even though this is a piece of work that doesn’t particularly interest me or on a personally note something that I don’t particularly like, it was still relevant to the work I was considering making because it revolved a lot around personal space and personal items. Then I looked at the work of Martin Parr, mostly still life close up stuff, because that the work of his that I like the most, but I also felt it was relevant because I want to focus on certain items, but the way Parr dose it works well because you know the focal point but the rest of the image is still an explosion of colour and interest, which is something that I like and if I’d gone ahead with this project is something I would have tried to incorporate into it more. The reason I didn’t go with this project is because when I took some test shots, it didn’t feel right the look of the images, I also couldn’t get very good lighting because of not having a proper set up at home, so all in all I didn’t feel that the images were going to work well enough for the projects.

For my second idea the one I ended up doing, I looked at a couple of landscape photographs, because I felt that was where this idea sat best, I looked at Peter Lik, whose work is really amazing, because of the way he works, catching the right lighting, and using the right equipment, along with the talent for seeing images that he has, he creates really good landscapes, then because I felt it was a good idea to explore different styles of landscape images, I have researched Ansel Adams, who was one of the best landscape photographers, but unlike Lik’s work creates images that are very different, yet still equally amazing. This is the idea I’ve gone with because unlike when I took test shots for my first idea, when I took this I just seemed right, it work on camera and in my mind so, I rolled with it because I felt it would work well.
